The Kalsi Engineering rotary seal handbook has been updated to revision level 21. The most significant revisions involve Chapter C5, “Enhanced Lubrication Kalsi Seals™” and Chapter E2, “Using Kalsi Seals in hydraulic swivels”. Minor technical, editorial and/or cosmetic changes were also made to Chapters A2, A3, B1, and D8, and Appendices 2 and 4.
Chapter C5 now includes significantly more testing-based performance data regarding the various types of Enhanced Lubrication Kalsi Seals. This chapter will continue to be updated as additional testing is performed. Our objective is to provide our customers with data from a wide range of test conditions, to aide in the selection of the most appropriate Enhanced Lubrication™ and Hybrid Kalsi Seals™.
Chapter E2 has been updated to show our customers how to design a high pressure side entry hydraulic swivel using our modular stacked housing arrangement and our patented floating backup rings. This arrangement is the best way that we know to implement rotary seals in high pressure hydraulic swivels for extreme pressure conditions. It provides the smallest possible extrusion gap clearance, is easy to assemble, and eliminates all of the deep bore machining of precision surfaces that is typical of conventional hydraulic swivel designs. The minimal extrusion gap clearance provided by the backup rings is a key factor in obtaining the highest possible performance and life from the hydraulic seals.
Although Chapter E2 illustrates the modular stacking housing arrangement in the context of a high pressure side entry hydraulic swivel, the arrangement is also applicable to other types of rotating equipment, such as side port swivels (Chapter E5) and high pressure washpipe assemblies.
